A brief on Mr. M Sahabuddin Ahmed, Chairman of the Group and his industrial undertakings namely MSA Spinning Ltd. & Associate Companies under the Group and Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd., first Bangladesh-European Joint venture bank in Bangladesh.

Mr. M Sahabuddin Ahmed, the Managing Director of MSA Spinning Ltd. and it’s associate companies holds a long track record of operating family business in the textile sector. Mr. Ahmed’s family’s involvement in the business began with Mr. Ahmed’s grandfather Mr. Tamijuddin Mia, who commenced the wholesale business of yarn, fabrics, dyes and chemicals in 1910 and was very successful in the business. Following him, his son, Mr. Abdul Kader Mia, father of Mr. Ahmed, joined the business at the age of 20 in the year 1924 and continued with the family business. Mr. Abdul Kader began operating a spinning mill as a sponsoring director of Mowla Textile Mills in the year 1965 at Narayanganj. With his experience in the spinning sector, he established Tamijuddin Textile Mills Ltd. (TTML), a spinning mill, at Konabari, Gazipur in 1968 named after his late father which was nationalized in 1972. TTML was reestablished in 1983 by Mr. Ahmed as the first private sector spinning mill in Bangladesh with a project cost of USD 10 million and came into production in 1985. Mr. Ahmed played a vital role for making the venture a successful one. With the sole effort of Mr. Ahmed, and under his leadership, he arranged for the participation of The Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO) which became long-term loan provider and equity partner of TTML. Having confidence in him as a proficient entrepreneur, international agencies viz., ADB, AFIC, FMO, SABINCO came forward to finance his next industrial project, Kader Synthetic Fibres Ltd., incorporated in 1985 to produce polyester filament yarn from PET chips. The project was the largest private sector investment in Bangladesh with the project cost being $35 million, yet another first of it’s kind in Bangladesh. The successful trajectory continued with the establishment of a number of spinning mills in Bangladesh beginning with MSA Spinning Ltd., a joint venture project with  Japanese company M/s. AOI Shoji Company Ltd. in 1995, AA Synthetic Fibres Ltd. in 2002, AA Yarn Mills Ltd. in 2006, AA Coarse Spun Ltd. in 2010, MSA Textiles Ltd. in 2014, AA Knitspin Ltd. in 2017 (the largest spinning mill in Bangladesh under one roof having 2,54,000 spindles and 21,000 rotor with a production capacity of 360 tons of yarn per day), AA Rotor Spinning Mills Ltd. and AA Ringspin Ltd. in 2021. Alongside the aforementioned spinning mills, MSA Spinning Ltd. and it’s associate companies possess power generation facilities, producing 107 MW per hour.

In June 1995, Mr. Ahmed established Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL), a schedule commercial bank in Bangladesh. It has approximately 20,000 employees. It was the first bank established in joint venture between Bangladesh and The Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO), the equity partner. Mr. Ahmed is the Founder-Chairman of DBBL. His daughter, Ms. Sadia Rayen Ahmed is the current Chairman of DBBL. Within a short span of time, DBBL attained the reputation of being the top ranking bank of Bangladesh for providing banking services of the highest qualitative standard including introducing multi-dimensional banking products. DBBL pioneered the digitalization in the banking sector by building the most extensive network of ATM booths, mobile banking services and agent banking in Bangladesh. Through this, DBBL has provided banking services to all sectors of society, including the unbanked masses e.g. working class women. Not limiting itself to banking, DBBL also pioneered corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Bangladesh by running the largest scholarship program in Bangladesh covering education from A Levels to M.Phil. Moreover, it pioneered programs to support those needing cataract surgery, cleft lipped children, math Olympiad, physics Olympiad, information technology Olympiad and many other humanitarian programs.
